The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said that Rivers State does not need a governor to mobilize support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election. He made this known in Port Harcourt on Saturday during the commissioning of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors headquarters, which also houses a radio station, a situation room, office spaces, and operational vehicles.
Wike praised the state coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Desmond Akawor, for building a strong political movement across Rivers State. He said the structure already covers all 23 local government areas, with zonal coordinators fully in place, showing that the state is politically organized and ready to work for the president’s re-election.
According to Wike, Rivers State has the needed political leaders and party officials to drive mobilization on its own. He listed senators, members of the National Assembly, state assembly members, council chairmen, and party leaders from both APC and PDP as part of the support base working together for Tinubu. He added that true political support is shown through action and commitment, not just public statements.
The FCT minister recalled the 2023 election, saying Rivers people made their choice freely and are pleased with the outcome. He stated that if the president declares interest in contesting in 2027, the state will continue to stand with him. He also urged the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to extend their activities to ward and unit levels to reach more people at the grassroots.
Earlier, Desmond Akawor welcomed Wike and other guests, thanking the minister for providing direction and support to the movement. He confirmed that coordinators have been appointed in all local governments of the state and described Wike’s political approach as modern and strategic, adding that the group is fully prepared for future political engagement.
