Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is marking his 89th birthday by organising a free medical outreach in parts of Lagos State, with at least 10,000 residents expected to benefit from the programme.
The outreach, scheduled to run from February 27 to March 4, 2026, will take place in Ikorodu and Alimosho areas of the state.
The initiative is being carried out by the Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation. In a statement released in Abeokuta on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, the foundation announced plans for what it described as a large-scale medical mission in Lagos suburbs.
The Chief Executive Officer of the foundation, Dr Olalekan Makinde, said the outreach is designed to provide free healthcare services to thousands of Nigerians.
He explained that the programme forms part of activities to commemorate Obasanjo’s 89th birthday and reflects his long record of public service and concern for the welfare of citizens.
According to Makinde, the medical mission will begin on February 27 at the Ijede LCDA Council Hall in Ijede, Ikorodu. It will continue on February 28 at the Imota Mini Stadium in Imota, also in Ikorodu.
From March 2 to March 4, the outreach will move to Alade Stadium along Command Road in the Agbado/Oke-Odo area of Alimosho.
Residents who attend the programme will receive free ear care services, including hearing tests and hearing aids for those who qualify. There will also be eye examinations, prescription glasses for those in need, and referrals with support for eye surgeries where necessary.
In addition, the outreach will provide cardiovascular checks such as blood pressure testing and heart health assessments. Preventive medical advice will be offered, and essential medicines will be distributed at no cost to beneficiaries.
The foundation said the programme is open to elderly persons, children, families, and other vulnerable residents across Lagos. It will also cater to individuals living with untreated hearing or vision problems and those facing heart-related health concerns.
Through the Lagos medical mission, the foundation aims to expand access to healthcare services for people who may not be able to afford proper medical treatment, while marking the former president’s birthday with a humanitarian effort focused on community support.
