President Bola Tinubu on Friday held a private meeting with Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to discuss security and recent political developments.
The meeting took place behind closed doors at Aso Rock as concerns grow over unrest in parts of Bauchi State.
Governor Mohammed was at the Villa to brief the President on the security situation in his state, especially incidents linked to bandit activities.
Reports indicate that Alkaleri Local Government Area has faced attacks and threats from armed groups, creating fear among residents and prompting calls for urgent action.
Sources said the governor updated the President on steps taken by the state government and the need for federal support to address the disturbances.
The visit comes amid ongoing efforts by security agencies to contain criminal activities in parts of the North-East and other regions of the country.
After the meeting, Mohammed also spoke about recent political events, including the movement of some politicians from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He stated that those who decided to change parties were free to do so, as political association is a personal choice.
Despite the wave of defections, the Bauchi governor said he remains in the opposition party and has no plans to leave. His comments come at a time when political alignments are shifting ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The closed-door session between the President and the governor reflects ongoing consultations between federal and state leaders on security matters and the changing political landscape in the country.
