Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo on Friday said he would step down from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to win the 2027 general elections.
He made the statement during an interview on African Independent Television while speaking on politics and development in his state.
The governor declared his full support for Tinubu’s re-election and expressed confidence that the President would secure victory in Edo State.
He said ongoing projects across the state would influence voters to support the President at the polls. According to him, residents would show their appreciation for the Federal Government’s efforts through their votes in 2027.
Okpebholo spoke about infrastructure and other development efforts in Edo, linking them to the leadership of the current administration at the centre.
He maintained that Tinubu would record a clear win in the state and insisted that there would be no serious contest against him there.
The governor also described his political style, saying he built his career through grassroots engagement rather than violence or intimidation.
He noted that he learned politics under the late Chief Tony Anenih and said his approach focuses on community connection and organisation.
His comments come as political activities gradually build toward the next general elections. Leaders across parties have begun declaring positions and forming alliances ahead of 2027.
Okpebholo’s public commitment places him firmly among governors backing Tinubu’s bid for another term.
