Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has ordered the indefinite suspension of two commissioners in the state. The affected officials are Stanley Mbam, Commissioner for Works, and Ogbonnaya Abara, Commissioner for Infrastructure Concession for Development.
The action followed allegations that the two officials failed to carry out their assigned responsibilities properly.
The suspension was announced in a statement released on Saturday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
The statement instructed the suspended commissioners to immediately return all government property in their possession.
This includes official vehicles, which are to be handed over to the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Grace Umezurike, without delay.
The governor’s decision was linked to concerns about the slow pace of some public infrastructure projects in the state capital.
Residents have recently expressed dissatisfaction with the efficiency of project delivery and have called on the government to improve accountability in public works and development programs.
The state administration did not disclose the specific acts that led to the suspension, but the statement described the action as being related to negligence of duty.
The order took effect immediately, and the suspended commissioners are expected to cooperate with the handover process.
