The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday postponed the alleged terrorism case involving former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz, to March 10, 2026, after the prosecution requested more time to prepare for trial.
The case was adjourned after the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, asked the court for additional time to study the file.
He informed the court that the matter was recently moved from the Department of State Services to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, making it necessary for him to properly review the documents and facts before proceeding.
The defence counsel, Adedayo Adedeji, did not oppose the request for adjournment. However, he urged the court to dismiss the case if the prosecution fails to begin trial on the next date, arguing that the matter should not be delayed without good reason.
After listening to both sides, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the request and fixed March 10, 2026, for the commencement of trial. The judge directed the prosecution to be ready to open its case on that date.
Malami, a former Minister of Justice, and his son are facing allegations linked to terrorism.
The matter remains before the court as proceedings are set to continue on the newly fixed date.
