The Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, said on Monday in Ado Ekiti that the All Progressives Congress is working towards securing at least ten million votes from the South-West for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
He spoke during the inauguration of a 57-member governorship campaign council formed to support the second term ambition of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji.
Bamidele, who also chairs the Ekiti APC 2026 Governorship Election Campaign Council, made the disclosure while addressing party members and supporters at the event.
The inauguration of the campaign council is part of preparations by the ruling party ahead of the governorship election scheduled to take place in Ekiti State on June 20.
According to him, the party has already begun plans to mobilise voters across the six South-West states in order to achieve the target during the presidential election in 2027.
He explained that the strategy includes encouraging more people to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Senate leader also said the Ekiti governorship election would serve as a test of the popularity of the current administration in the state. He stated that the outcome of the poll would reflect the level of support enjoyed by Governor Oyebanji among residents of the state.
Bamidele expressed confidence that the APC would record a comfortable victory in the election, noting that the party believes the governor’s performance in office will influence voters when they go to the polls.
He urged members of the party to intensify grassroots mobilisation across communities in the state.
He further called on party supporters to encourage eligible residents to register as voters and ensure they obtain their Permanent Voter Cards. According to him, the participation of more voters will play an important role in the party’s efforts to secure victory in future elections.
The Senate leader also advised party leaders to engage people in their neighbourhoods, including friends and relatives, and motivate them to take part in the electoral process. He said the party’s success in upcoming elections would depend largely on voter participation and strong mobilisation across the region.
Preparations for the Ekiti governorship election have already begun as political parties set up campaign structures and outline strategies ahead of the contest.
The APC leadership believes that winning the state election will strengthen its position as it prepares for the 2027 presidential race.
