Former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, on Monday in Abuja denied reports claiming that the Court of Appeal confirmed his suspension from the party.
He spoke to journalists shortly after the court delivered its judgment on the dispute surrounding the PDP national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Anyanwu said the reports circulating online about the court supporting his suspension were incorrect. According to him, the issue of his suspension and that of some other party officials was not part of the matters considered by the appellate court during the proceedings.
He explained that the case before the court focused mainly on the legality of the PDP national convention conducted in Ibadan in November 2025.
Reports had earlier claimed that the Appeal Court upheld the suspension of Anyanwu alongside other members of the party’s National Working Committee.
The officials mentioned in those reports included the National Organising Secretary, Umaru Bature, the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, and the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Okechukwu Osuoha.
However, Anyanwu said the claim about their suspension being confirmed by the court did not reflect what happened during the hearing or in the judgment delivered by the court.
He explained that the court ruling dealt with other legal questions linked to the party convention and did not address the suspension of those officials.
He also stated that despite the legal dispute within the party, preparations for the next PDP national convention were ongoing. According to him, the convention is expected to take place on March 29 and March 30.
The gathering will bring together party members from across the country to address internal matters and make decisions concerning the party’s leadership structure.
The latest development comes amid the ongoing leadership dispute within the PDP following the Appeal Court ruling on the Ibadan convention. The judgment has created different reactions among members of the party and its factions.
While some leaders have accepted the court’s decision, the faction led by Tanimu Turaki has already announced plans to challenge the ruling at the Supreme Court.
The group intends to seek a final legal decision on the matter as the dispute over the party’s leadership continues.
