The Rivers State House of Assembly has turned down four commissioner nominees proposed by Governor Siminalayi Fubara during a screening session on Monday.
The session was held at the State Assembly in Port Harcourt, where lawmakers carefully reviewed the qualifications and backgrounds of all nominees.
Out of the nominees presented, five were approved and cleared to assume office. Those confirmed include Tonye Bellgam, Temple Nwofor, Peters Nwagor, Lekue Kenneth, and Amairigha Edward Hart.
Meanwhile, four nominees did not receive the Assembly’s approval. They are Datonye Alasia, Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, and Otonye TKD Amachree.
The decision comes as part of the Assembly’s responsibility to vet nominees to ensure that appointees meet the requirements of public office and can effectively serve the people of Rivers State.
The outcome of the screening means the approved individuals can begin their official duties, while the rejected nominees will not join the state executive council.
Lawmakers have stated that such screenings are part of the checks and balances designed to promote accountability and good governance at the state level.
The Assembly session attracted attention from political observers, local media, and residents who have been following the nomination process closely.
