The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday said the Federal Capital Territory Administration plans to provide infrastructure in the newly created Waru-Pozema District to make the area ready for development. He spoke in Abuja while addressing journalists after inspecting several ongoing projects across the FCT.
Wike said the administration intends to ensure that the district, located in Cadastral Zone D16, is opened up so that residents and developers can move in and begin building. He explained that the government will work with the Federal Capital Development Authority and other departments to determine the steps needed to provide basic facilities in the area.
The minister said officials will check with the FCDA and the district coordinator to know the plans already in place for the district. He added that part of the process would include confirming whether the development of the district is captured in the 2026 budget before further work begins.
According to him, the administration will make efforts to ensure that the needed infrastructure is provided to support development in the district.
During the inspection tour, Wike also visited several judicial infrastructure projects in the territory and said he was pleased with the progress recorded so far. He said contractors handling the Court of Appeal complex assured the government that the project would be completed by May.
He explained that residential quarters for judges had already been furnished, including those meant for the Federal High Court. The project includes 10 duplexes for Federal High Court judges, 20 duplexes for judges of the FCT High Court and another 10 duplexes for judges of the Court of Appeal.
He added that the facilities are expected to be inaugurated during the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The minister also inspected a major road construction project in Katampe. He described the road as one that functions like a ring road within the area and commended the contractor for the speed and quality of work.
Wike praised the construction company handling the project, China Geo-Engineering Corporation, saying the firm has shown commitment to projects assigned to it. He also spoke well of the level of supervision by officials of the FCDA, led by the Acting Executive Secretary, Engr. Richard Yunana Dauda.
He said his regular inspection of projects across the FCT is part of his responsibility to ensure that government work is properly done. Wike added that the trust given to him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu encourages him to remain dedicated to the assignment.
Speaking briefly on national politics, the minister said members of the Peoples Democratic Party need to focus on unity within the party. He said reconciliation among party members should come before discussions about future elections.
According to him, the party can still remain competitive if members work together sincerely as attention turns to its upcoming convention.
