The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has begun a statewide membership information update to strengthen its membership records and meet electoral requirements.
The exercise is taking place across all wards in the state and will be conducted during the party’s regular ward meetings where members can provide and update their personal details.
The process started following a notice released on Friday by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara. The party informed members across Kwara that the update had commenced and that all members are expected to take part in the exercise in their respective wards.
According to the party, the membership update will allow members to review and correct their records while ensuring that the party maintains an organised and reliable database.
The exercise will be carried out during ward meetings, which already serve as regular gatherings for party members at the grassroots level.
Members participating in the process are required to submit certain personal information to complete the update. These details include the National Identification Number, date of birth, residential address, local government area, polling unit and a passport photograph. The information will be used to properly document members and improve the accuracy of the party’s records.
The party explained that the update is necessary to ensure that its membership data follows the rules guiding political parties in Nigeria. Maintaining a reliable and verifiable database is also part of the requirements under the Electoral Act.
To manage the digital part of the exercise, the party said only two selected registration officers in each ward will have access to the official digital registration portal. These officers will be responsible for entering the information provided by members into the system.
At the same time, the digital registration will run alongside manual documentation. Ward structures had earlier received hard copy membership registers, and the same information provided during the digital update will also be entered into these physical records.
Party leaders encouraged members across the state to attend their ward meetings and cooperate with the designated registration officers to ensure the process runs smoothly. The exercise is expected to improve the party’s organisation at the grassroots level.
The development comes at a time when political parties in Nigeria are gradually preparing their structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Updating membership records is seen as part of efforts by parties to strengthen their internal systems and improve coordination among members across different wards in the state.
