A group within the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State has asked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and the party’s national caretaker leadership to step in and resolve the crisis affecting the party in the state.
The appeal was made by the Reset Group of Osun PDP, which said urgent action is needed to stop further breakdown of the party’s structure.
The request was contained in a letter written to the chairman of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Abdulrahaman Mohammed, and also addressed to Wike. The letter was signed by the group’s president, Akinwale Oyetunde, and its secretary, Adeyeye Olugbenga. The document was obtained in Osogbo.
The group accused the leadership of the party in Osun, led by Sunday Bisi, of weakening the party and causing many members to consider moving to other political parties. According to the group, the current situation could lead to the party losing its strength in the state if urgent steps are not taken.
In its appeal, the group called for the dissolution of the State Working Committee headed by Bisi. It explained that the leadership crisis in the Osun chapter of the party worsened after the state executives attended a convention held in Ibadan, which was later set aside by the Court of Appeal.
The group also accused the State Working Committee of supporting Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is said to be contesting under the Accord Party in the August 15 election. According to the group, the decision was taken without approval from the party’s National Working Committee.
The letter further stated that the state leadership had encouraged members of the PDP in Osun to register with the Accord Party. The group claimed that there were plans to stop PDP members from contesting elections under the party’s platform in the state.
It also alleged that some senior members within the party’s national leadership who are loyal to Wike were involved in the development.
According to the group, these actions may weaken the party and reduce its influence in Osun State ahead of future elections. It therefore appealed to Wike and the party’s national leadership to dissolve the current state executives and replace them with a caretaker committee.
The group said the caretaker committee would create a fair environment that would allow interested members to contest for political offices as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The crisis within the Osun PDP has led to confusion about who controls the party structure in the state. Different groups have claimed leadership of the party, while some members are uncertain about their chances of contesting future elections under the PDP platform.
Earlier developments showed that the faction of the party’s national leadership loyal to the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, had announced the dissolution of the Osun PDP State Working Committee led by Bisi.
A caretaker committee headed by Tunde Tijani was later announced to take over the leadership of the party in the state.
However, the State Working Committee rejected the decision and insisted that its leadership remained valid. Members of the committee maintained that the structure that brought them into office followed proper procedures and reflected the will of party members in Osun State.
The committee also urged party members in the state to remain calm and stay focused despite the ongoing dispute over the leadership of the party.
