The governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, on Sunday organised an interdenominational church service to mark the completion of his first term in office. The event took place ahead of his swearing-in for a second term after he won the governorship election held on November 8 in the state.
The ceremony brought together several Christian leaders and other guests who gathered to give thanks and reflect on the administration’s first four years.
The thanksgiving service drew many clerics from different Christian denominations across the country. Among those present was a former governor of the state, Chris Ngige, along with other dignitaries and supporters.
The gathering served as a moment for prayers and reflection as the governor prepares to begin another term in office.
Soludo used the occasion to express gratitude to God and to the people who supported his administration during his first tenure. He explained that his desire had always been to serve the people of Anambra and to contribute to the growth of the state.
According to him, the opportunity to lead the state came as a result of God’s grace and the support he received from residents and stakeholders.
The governor also called on the people of the state to work together with his administration as he begins another four-year term. He stated that his government would continue to focus on development projects across different communities and sectors in the state.
He said his administration still has plans aimed at improving infrastructure, governance, and economic opportunities for residents.
Soludo further urged citizens to support efforts to build a state that promotes hard work and enterprise while discouraging crime and harmful practices. He said the goal is to create an environment where people can grow and succeed through legitimate means.
The church service also featured a sermon delivered by the Archbishop of the Anglican Communion, Awka Diocese, Alexander Ibezim. During his message, the cleric spoke about the responsibilities attached to leadership and the need for leaders to listen to the people they govern.
He explained that those in positions of authority must show compassion and wisdom when dealing with public matters.
Ibezim also spoke about the challenges that come with governing a state, noting that leadership often involves facing different pressures and responsibilities. He stated that managing a state like Anambra requires patience, commitment, and the ability to respond to the needs of the people.
The governor is expected to be sworn in again on March 17 to begin his second term in office. The event will officially mark the continuation of his administration as he moves forward with plans and policies for the state in the coming years.
