The All Progressives Congress on Monday inaugurated a Media and Publicity Subcommittee to handle communication activities for the party’s 2026 National Convention. The inauguration took place in Abuja where members of the committee were formally assigned their responsibilities ahead of the event.
The committee was inaugurated by Mohammed Idris, who serves as Co-Chairman of the subcommittee and also the Minister of Information and National Orientation. During the inauguration ceremony, he advised members to carry out their duties with professionalism and dedication as preparations continue for the convention.
Idris stated that the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing reforms aimed at improving the country’s economic and governance system. According to him, the ruling party remains committed to the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and sees the upcoming convention as an opportunity to demonstrate unity and shared purpose among party members.
He explained that the work of the committee is important because the success of large political gatherings depends greatly on how information is communicated to the public. He said the committee will be responsible for ensuring that correct information about the convention reaches citizens and media organisations both within and outside the country.
Members of the committee were informed that their duties would cover several areas related to media communication. These include preparing and producing content for the convention, building relationships with journalists and media houses, planning media coverage, and working with other committees involved in organising the event.
The committee is also expected to handle documentation of activities related to the convention. This involves writing reports, keeping records in digital and printed formats, monitoring media coverage, and reviewing how information about the convention is presented in different media platforms such as print, radio, television and online channels.
Other responsibilities include coordinating all publicity activities for the event, supervising media engagements and evaluating how effectively the convention messages are delivered to the public.
Idris encouraged members of the subcommittee to approach their work with creativity, discipline and a strong sense of responsibility as the party prepares for its national convention.
According to him, effective communication will play a major role in shaping how the event is presented to Nigerians and observers from other countries.
