The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Ministry of Interior, has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays across the country to mark the end of Ramadan and celebrate Eid-el-Fitr.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government.
The holidays are to allow Muslim faithful across Nigeria to celebrate the completion of the one-month fasting period observed during Ramadan. The minister conveyed goodwill to Muslims and congratulated them for successfully completing the religious exercise.
He also encouraged citizens to continue practicing values such as kindness, peace, tolerance, generosity, and sacrifice, which are commonly observed during Ramadan. Nigerians were urged to use the period of celebration to pray for unity, peace, and progress in the country.
The government further advised people to celebrate in a responsible manner and remember those in need by showing acts of care and support. It also restated its commitment to promoting unity and peaceful coexistence among all citizens.
