The Governor of Anambra State, Chukwuma Soludo, on March 18, 2026, in Awka directed all political appointees in the state to hand over their duties to permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their ministries, departments and agencies.
The order came a day after he and his deputy, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, were sworn in for a new term in office. The directive is part of steps to reorganise the government pending the formation of a new cabinet.
The instruction was contained in an official notice issued by Nwabufo Nwankwo from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
The notice asked all affected officials to complete the handover process before the close of work on the same day, ensuring that government activities continue without interruption.
The development follows the inauguration ceremony held at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, where the oath of office was administered by the state Chief Judge, Onochie Anyachebelu.
The event was attended by top dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, as well as former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan.
In addition to the handover directive, the governor also scheduled a meeting with members of his first-term cabinet. The meeting is expected to take place a few days later at the state executive chambers.
The move is part of the transition process as the administration prepares to appoint a new set of officials to run the affairs of the state.
