Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra staged a protest on Wednesday in the United Kingdom during the official visit of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling for the release of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
The demonstration took place across different locations in London, including Parliament Square, 10 Downing Street, the Commonwealth Office, and the Nigerian High Commission.
The protesters gathered in groups, carrying placards with messages demanding Kanu’s freedom. Many of them dressed in red caps and displayed Biafra flags while moving through the selected areas.
The action happened at the same time the Nigerian President was in the country for official engagements, drawing attention to their demands.
The group used the protest to express their dissatisfaction and push for action on the continued detention of their leader. Videos from the scene showed participants chanting and holding signs as they tried to draw the attention of authorities and the international community.
The demonstration formed part of ongoing efforts by IPOB supporters outside Nigeria to keep the issue of Kanu’s detention in public view.
The protest also added to reactions surrounding the President’s visit, as different groups continue to express varying opinions on national matters during such international trips.
