A faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has said it will challenge a ruling by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja which recognised Agbo Major as the party’s national chairman.
The announcement was made on Wednesday in Abuja by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson.
The group rejected the court decision and stated that it would take the matter to a higher court. It argued that the judgment was not proper and claimed the court acted beyond its authority by deciding on an issue that is already being handled by other courts, including those in Abia State and the Court of Appeal in Owerri.
According to the faction, the case was already under consideration at a higher level, and the action taken by the FCT High Court went against legal procedures.
It also alleged that some individuals who had earlier been removed from the party were behind the legal action in support of Boniface Aniebonam, which it believes is aimed at creating problems within the party ahead of future elections.
The faction further raised concerns about how the case was handled, stating that the party was not properly informed about the court proceedings. It said this affected its ability to present its side and questioned the fairness of the process.
Despite the ruling, the group assured its members that it would continue to pursue the case through legal means.
It expressed confidence that a higher court would review the matter and give a different decision, while also stating that efforts to take control of the party would not succeed.
