The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed over 53,500 personnel across Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebration to maintain peace and ensure safety during the festive period.
The deployment was ordered by the Commandant General, Abubakar Audi, and covers all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The operation includes tactical teams and intelligence units positioned in different parts of the country to respond to security concerns and protect critical national assets and infrastructure. The move is part of efforts to prevent possible threats and ensure that citizens celebrate without disruption.
Security presence has been increased in areas expected to witness large gatherings, including prayer grounds, mosques, churches, shopping centres, motor parks, and recreational locations. Both uniformed officers and undercover personnel have been assigned to monitor activities and respond quickly to any situation that may arise.
The command also directed senior officers at zonal and state levels to maintain strong surveillance within their areas and work closely with other security agencies through information sharing and joint operations. Routine patrols have also been intensified to improve response time to emergencies reported by the public.
The deployment comes as the Federal Government declared public holidays to mark Eid-el-Fitr, which signals the end of Ramadan. The agency aims to ensure that the celebration takes place in a safe and orderly environment across the country.
