Lagos State’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is set to become the head of a largely diminished Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum. The APC described the development as a sign of the PDP’s declining influence and internal instability.
According to Lagos APC, the ongoing movement of PDP governors into the APC has weakened the opposition party, stripping it of structure and credibility. They said what was once a united platform for PDP governors now risks becoming a forum dominated by a single figure, reflecting the party’s struggles to maintain collective leadership.
The APC criticized the PDP for ongoing defections, internal disputes, and a lack of clear direction. They suggested that the party’s inability to maintain cohesion among its elected leaders raises questions about its capacity to govern effectively.
The statement from Lagos APC also warned that the decline of opposition unity could have broader implications for Nigerian democracy. The party called on opposition groups to learn from APC’s experience during its years in opposition, when careful planning and discipline helped it build credibility and trust with voters.
Despite the criticisms, the Lagos APC reaffirmed its focus on governance, promising to continue delivering results and strengthening democratic institutions while navigating political challenges.
