The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday, March 23, 2026, in Abuja criticised Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde during the 107th National Executive Committee meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, warning party members against engaging in political battles they are not prepared to handle.
Speaking at the meeting attended by party leaders and stakeholders, Wike reacted to claims linked to Makinde concerning alleged discussions involving him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He dismissed the claims and described them as misleading, stating that such statements had created unnecessary tension within the party.
During his remarks, the minister cautioned members against approaching politics like a business arrangement, noting that political engagement requires a different mindset and purpose. He drew a distinction between those seeking financial gain and those pursuing influence and leadership within the political space.
Wike also used the occasion to send a message ahead of the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, urging members to show commitment to the process. He warned that those who fail to participate actively should not expect to return later and claim full involvement in party affairs.
While addressing the internal situation of the party, he called on members to avoid unnecessary conflicts and focus on building unity. He advised leaders to continue reconciliation efforts but stressed the need for sincerity among all sides.
