In Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced that Senator Oluremi Tinubu will inaugurate the newly remodelled Abuja City Gate in May 2026. The project is expected to be part of activities marking the third year in office of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The remodelling of the Abuja City Gate is being carried out by the FCT Administration as part of efforts to improve the outlook of the nation’s capital.
According to the minister, the project is designed to give the city a more fitting entrance and improve its overall appearance. He explained that the upgraded structure will include a water fountain representing the 36 states and the FCT, along with spaces for relaxation that residents and visitors can use.
The minister also stated that the idea for the transformation came from the First Lady, who believed the city entrance needed improvement. He added that work on the project is moving at a steady pace and that the contractors are delivering as expected. He expressed satisfaction with both the speed and standard of construction.
During an inspection of ongoing projects across the territory, the minister also gave updates on other developments. He said the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal located in Daki Biyu is close to completion and will be ready for commissioning around the same time as the City Gate project. He noted that the project is already at its final stage.
He further explained that housing projects for judicial officers are also nearing completion. Over 20 duplexes for the FCT High Court judges, along with quarters for magistrates, are expected to be delivered before the end of May. He added that nearby lands are being included in the housing area to improve security and control access.
In addition, the minister disclosed that residences for top judicial officers, including heads of courts, are scheduled for completion by October.
He said these projects are part of the administration’s plan to improve infrastructure and support the work of the judiciary in the capital.
