The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction led by Tanimu Turaki, which plans to appeal a Court of Appeal ruling on the party’s leadership at the Supreme Court.
Wike made the remarks on Friday night while inspecting the Valodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in preparation for the PDP National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.
The Turaki-led National Executive Committee had approved a decision by the party’s National Working Committee to challenge the appellate court judgment.
Wike described this move as baseless and said it would not affect the planned convention. He explained that the convention would proceed as scheduled, and internal party disputes would be addressed afterward.
Wike also outlined that the party has allocated positions across zones, with the presidency zoned to the South and the chairmanship to the North. He said the zoning arrangement aims to make the process smoother and to present a more unified party front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The minister’s visit to the stadium was to review final preparations for the convention. Officials confirmed that seating arrangements for all states and the VIP section have been completed. Wike was accompanied by senior PDP leaders, including Okezie Ikpeazu, Mao Ohuabunwa, Mohammed Abdulrahman, Samuel Anyanwu, Ferdinand Alabraba, and Chibudom Nwuche.
The PDP faction led by Wike continues to move forward with its convention plans while seeking ways to resolve disagreements within the party.
The party intends to show its organizational strength and readiness for the 2027 elections through a well-prepared and orderly convention.
