In Abuja, Nigeria, on Sunday, the Delta State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Peter Mrakpor, said reports suggesting that a court has stopped the party’s national convention scheduled for March 29 and 30, 2026, are not true, explaining that the exercise will go on as planned without any legal issue.
Mrakpor, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, spoke in response to growing rumours circulating among party members and the public that a court injunction could disrupt the planned gathering in Abuja. He explained that there is no valid court order preventing the convention and assured that all preparations have been completed for the event to take place as scheduled.
He urged delegates, especially those from Delta State, to ignore the reports and focus on participating fully in the convention. According to him, those spreading such information are trying to create confusion within the party and weaken its internal activities at a time when unity is needed.
The party leader maintained that the convention arrangements remain intact and that there is no legal barrier affecting the process. He added that the leadership is committed to ensuring a smooth and successful convention, despite the ongoing tensions and disagreements within the party.
His statement comes at a time when the PDP is dealing with internal issues, including leadership disputes and factional differences, which have led to several claims and counterclaims about the legitimacy of party decisions and activities.
Despite these challenges, Mrakpor insisted that the convention would proceed as planned in Abuja, with delegates expected to attend and take part in decisions that will shape the party’s direction in the coming years.
