President Bola Tinubu has chosen to celebrate his 74th birthday in a quiet manner, citing the current situation in the country and the challenges Nigerians are facing.
The decision was made known on Sunday through a statement personally issued by the president, where he expressed appreciation to citizens for their goodwill messages and support.
Tinubu explained that his choice to keep the celebration simple is in line with his usual approach of observing his birthday based on the mood of the nation. He acknowledged the messages, prayers, and public displays of support from Nigerians across the country, including those who placed adverts and broadcast messages in his honour. He also appreciated close associates, including his wife, Oluremi Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima, for their kind gestures.
Reflecting on his time in office, the president noted that his administration has faced various challenges since introducing key reforms. He pointed out that there are early signs of progress, although global issues such as tensions in the Middle East have affected the pace of recovery. He added that the results seen so far are a product of collective efforts by both the government and citizens.
