Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Monday in Kano officially became a member of the African Democratic Congress after resigning from his former party a day earlier.
He completed his registration and received his membership card at a gathering held in the Kano residence known as Gidan Kwankwasiyya.
The move followed his earlier decision to step away from the NNPP, which he said was necessary due to ongoing political changes in the country. His switch to the ADC is part of a broader realignment ahead of future elections, as political actors reposition within different platforms.
The event attracted several well-known political figures across different parties. Among those present were David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal, Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, Dino Melaye, and John Odigie-Oyegun, among others, who gathered to witness his formal entry into the party.
Before this development, Kwankwaso had announced his resignation from the NNPP, ending his long association with the party.
He appreciated the leadership and members for their support during his time with them and also acknowledged the loyalty of his supporters under the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
His decision to join the ADC is expected to shape ongoing political discussions as preparations continue ahead of the next general elections, with new alliances and strategies taking form across party lines.
