The Accountant-General of Nasarawa State, Musa Ahmed Mohammed, has stepped down from his position to contest the 2027 governorship election under the All Progressives Congress.
He announced his resignation on Monday in Lafia during a political gathering where he also declared his ambition to run for governor.
Mohammed said his decision came after repeated calls from residents who encouraged him to enter the race. He confirmed that he had left his role as Accountant-General and appreciated the approval granted by Governor Abdullahi Sule to allow him pursue his political goal.
He stated that he is ready to contest the election and seek support from the people of the state. He also explained that his experience in government has prepared him for higher responsibility, adding that he intends to continue the work of the current administration if elected.
Mohammed noted that his time working closely with the governor gave him insight into leadership and governance, which he plans to apply if given the opportunity to lead the state. He assured supporters that he would focus on sustaining ongoing development efforts.
Before his appointment as Accountant-General in 2023, Mohammed served as Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for two terms between 2007 and 2015.
His resignation now opens a new phase in his political career as he joins the growing list of aspirants preparing for the 2027 elections in the state.
