In Abuja, Nigeria, on Sunday, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, addressed members of the Peoples Democratic Party during the party’s national convention, urging unity, inclusion, and a fresh start as the party moves forward after its internal crisis.
Speaking before delegates and party stakeholders, Wike said the gathering marked a turning point for the party after a period of leadership struggles that nearly weakened its structure. He explained that loyal members stood firm through the challenges, resisted divisions, and worked together to restore control of the party to its members.
He noted that despite the crisis at the top, many supporters at the grassroots level remained committed and did not abandon the party. According to him, their loyalty and patience helped keep the party alive during difficult times, while others moved across parties for personal reasons.
Wike said the convention offers an opportunity to rebuild and reposition the party to meet the expectations of Nigerians. He called on members, including those who may have disagreed in the past, to come together and work toward a common goal. He added that the party must create room for everyone and ensure that no group is left out in its activities.
He also stressed the need for members to renew their commitment to the party and work with a shared vision based on its founding ideals. He said the party must remain focused on serving the people and create ways for their voices to be heard in decision-making.
The minister told delegates that the convention represents a new phase for the party, where unity and cooperation will guide its actions. He expressed confidence that with collective effort, the party can regain strength and play a key role in shaping the country’s future.
The event brought together delegates from across the country, all gathered to take part in decisions aimed at rebuilding the party and preparing it for upcoming political activities.
