PDP ratifies congresses nationwide
The Peoples Democratic Party on Monday in Abuja approved its ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses across the country during its 2026 National Convention. The decision was taken after delegates adopted a motion presented by Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, confirming the party’s structures in several states.
The approval followed months of internal meetings, disputes in some state chapters, and efforts to settle disagreements within the party. Thousands of party members and stakeholders attended the convention, which served as a platform to address ongoing issues and prepare for future elections, including the 2027 general polls.
With this move, the party formally recognised its leadership structures at different levels in many states, including Abia, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Cross River, Edo, Gombe, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, Ogun, Osun, Niger, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory.
The convention also approved fresh congresses in other states such as Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Borno, Delta, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Ondo, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, Yobe, and Zamfara.
Delegates supported the decision through a voice vote, showing agreement among different groups within the party. The approval also aligned with earlier decisions made by the party’s National Executive Committee and recommendations from its caretaker leadership, as well as existing court rulings and the party’s constitution.
The development is seen as part of the party’s effort to strengthen its internal structure and rebuild unity after a period of disagreements. Party members were also encouraged to work together and focus on common goals as the party continues its preparations for future political contests.
