The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday in Abuja said the FCT Administration is ready to work with Finland to improve infrastructure, agriculture, and urban management in the capital.
He made this known during a meeting with the Finnish Ambassador to Nigeria, Sanna Selin, where both sides discussed ways to build stronger cooperation.
The minister said Abuja is growing fast and the government is carrying out projects to upgrade the city. He noted that the administration is open to partnerships with countries that have experience in areas such as smart city systems, clean energy, and modern farming. According to him, working with Finland could help the city keep up with its development plans and improve services for residents.
He also spoke about efforts to maintain security in the FCT, stating that the government is focused on creating a safe environment for foreign partners and investors. He added that the administration wants to attract technical support and investment that can support ongoing projects and future plans.
Waste management was one of the main issues discussed during the meeting. The minister said the FCT needs better systems to handle waste and is willing to engage companies with the capacity to deliver effective solutions. He pointed out that improving waste management is important for the city’s growth and public health.
In her response, the ambassador said relations between Nigeria and Finland have improved in recent months. She noted that her country is working to increase trade and support digital development in Nigeria.
She also stated that Finland has strong experience in digital systems, water treatment, waste handling, and recycling methods.
She added that Finland recently entered into an agreement with Nigeria on digital innovation and believes there is room for more cooperation.
She expressed hope that Finnish knowledge and technology can be applied in Abuja through joint projects, which could strengthen ties between both sides and support development in the FCT.
