On Thursday in Abuja, top figures of the African Democratic Congress, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Rauf Aregbesola, and David Mark, arrived at a venue to address the media concerning the party’s ongoing leadership dispute and recent developments affecting its structure.
The meeting followed actions taken by the Independent National Electoral Commission, which removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official records as national chairman and national secretary of the party. The commission also declined to recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is seeking leadership through legal means.
INEC further stated that it would not engage with any faction within the party for now and would suspend monitoring of congresses or conventions organised by any of the groups involved in the dispute.
The electoral body explained that its decision would remain in place until a pending case before the Federal High Court is resolved.
The presence of the party’s leading figures at the press briefing signals growing concern within the ADC as it faces internal disagreements that could affect its activities ahead of future elections.
The leaders are expected to address the situation and outline their position on the actions taken by the electoral commission.
