On Thursday, the All Progressives Congress said it had no involvement in the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission to remove the leadership of the African Democratic Congress from its records, insisting that the crisis within the opposition party was caused by its own actions.
The response came after members of the ADC accused the ruling party and Bola Ahmed Tinubu of being behind INEC’s move to delist key figures, including David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, from its official portal.
Reacting to the allegation, APC spokesman Felix Morka said the claims were misplaced, adding that the ADC’s leadership dispute and its current challenges were the result of internal disagreements that have lingered for some time.
INEC had earlier explained that its action followed a court directive ordering it to maintain the existing situation pending the outcome of a case before a trial court. The decision affected the recognition of the faction led by David Mark and also led to the suspension of engagement with all groups within the party.
The ruling party maintained that the electoral body acted within the law and followed due process in carrying out the directive, noting that the development was linked to the ongoing legal battles over the leadership of the ADC.
The APC further stated that the ADC’s problems began after disagreements over leadership succession and the emergence of a new national working committee in 2025, which led to divisions and court cases among party members.
It added that rather than blaming external forces, the ADC should address its internal issues, as the ongoing crisis has raised concerns about its readiness for future elections.
