On Thursday in Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the appointment of Professor Shu’aib Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, while also renewing the tenure of Sule Abdulaziz as Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, with both decisions taking immediate effect.
The appointment of Aliyu follows the exit of Ahmed Aminu, who stepped down from the role to pursue his political ambition ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.
The presidency described Aliyu as an experienced academic and administrator with a strong background in research and leadership, expressing confidence in his ability to manage the agency and improve its contribution to manpower development in the oil and gas sector.
At the same time, the president approved a second and final term for Abdulaziz after reviewing his performance at the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
The government noted that during his first tenure, the company recorded progress in power transmission, including improvements in grid operations, expansion of capacity, and ongoing system upgrades.
The presidency also linked Abdulaziz’s continued leadership to efforts aimed at strengthening regional electricity cooperation, especially through initiatives tied to the West African Power Pool.
The statement further indicated that both appointees are expected to carry out their duties in line with the administration’s development plans, focusing on efficiency, growth, and better service delivery in their respective sectors.
