The Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has explained comments made by the Minister during a recent interview on Channels Television. The clarification follows reactions to a statement Wike made to the station’s Seun Okinbaloye.
According to the assistant, Wike’s remarks were figurative and made in frustration after observing that Okinbaloye, a journalist he respects, was speaking with political bias instead of conducting a neutral interview.
The clarification stated that the Minister never intended any threat and had already explained the context during the live program, where other journalists in the studio responded with laughter.
The statement further urged the public not to misinterpret Wike’s comments for political attacks or personal threats, stressing that taking the remarks out of context would be misleading and harmful.
Officials confirmed that Wike and Okinbaloye later spoke on the phone, and the journalist understood the figurative nature of the comments. The clarification aims to ensure accurate reporting and prevent the use of the statement for propaganda.
The FCT office said all efforts are being made to maintain transparency and prevent misrepresentation of the Minister’s words.
