The All Progressives Congress on Sunday said it will go ahead to take part in the 2027 general elections even if opposition parties decide to boycott the process, insisting that it will field candidates as required by law.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made this known during a television programme while reacting to growing calls by some opposition figures urging parties to withdraw from the election over claims of bias by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He stated that several political parties are still active in the country and are expected to present candidates for the election, noting that the APC has no plan to step back from the process. According to him, the party will continue its preparations and fully take part in the polls as allowed by the constitution.
Morka said the responsibility of deciding whether to participate or boycott the election lies with opposition parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, and the African Democratic Congress. He added that the APC cannot suspend its political activities because of decisions taken by other parties.
The development comes as some opposition leaders have been discussing the option of boycotting the election, claiming that the process may not be fair. Among those who have spoken about the idea are Omoyele Sowore and members of a faction within the PDP. They believe staying away from the polls could be a way to protest the situation.
The issue has also been linked to recent actions by INEC, including decisions affecting the leadership structure of the ADC, which have added to disagreements within the opposition.
Despite these concerns, the APC maintained that it will continue to participate fully in the democratic process, while urging other parties to focus on preparing themselves for the election rather than considering withdrawal.
