I’ll Do First Term in NNPP, Second Term in APC – Kano Governor Yusuf

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has announced that he intends to serve his first term in office with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and pursue his second term under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor’s statement comes after a viral slogan suggested he would serve only one term. He explained that his political move is part of his plan for leadership continuity and responding to the political climate in Kano State.

Yusuf recently left the NNPP following internal disputes and disagreements with his former political mentor, Rabiu Kwankwaso. He joined the APC, stating that the decision is aimed at benefiting the people of Kano.

Observers note that the governor’s defection reflects the ongoing shifts in Nigerian state politics, where party changes often follow internal party disagreements or strategic realignments.

Yusuf also dismissed the relevance of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying it would not impact his plans.

The move comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, where political alliances and party loyalty are expected to play a crucial role in shaping outcomes in Kano State.
