On Saturday in Ado Ekiti, members of the Ekiti State chapter of the National Forum of Former Legislators declared their support for the second-term bids of Bola Tinubu and Biodun Oyebanji, stating that their decision was based on their assessment of current leadership and ongoing reforms.
The position was made known after a meeting of the group, which brought together former lawmakers from the National Assembly, the Ekiti State House of Assembly, and ex-councillors from across the 177 wards in the state. The gathering also marked the formal inauguration of the state chapter of the forum.
The event was held with the involvement of the national leadership of the forum, led by its convener and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, who was represented by the national coordinator, Raphael Igbokwe. During the meeting, members agreed to use their experience in governance and legislation to support public administration and contribute ideas that can improve service delivery at different levels.
The forum aligned with its national position on power rotation, stating that the presidency should remain in the southern region for a full eight-year cycle before moving to the North, in line with what it described as fairness and balance in the political system.
Members of the group also agreed to work towards the re-election of Oyebanji in the upcoming governorship poll in Ekiti State, saying they would mobilise support across communities. They noted that their backing is aimed at ensuring continuity in governance and ongoing projects within the state.
In addition, the forum pledged to support Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, stating that its members would participate in political mobilisation and public engagement to strengthen support for his administration.
The group also expressed appreciation to its national leadership for creating a platform that allows former public office holders to remain involved in governance discussions, while reaffirming its commitment to unity, participation, and democratic development in Ekiti State and across Nigeria.
