Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Monday said he is confident of strong support in northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, adding that his development plans for the region are unmatched by any other contender.
He made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme, where he spoke about his vision for national development and his focus on the northern part of the country.
Obi said the North remains a key economic asset for Nigeria, especially in agriculture, and argued that the region has the capacity to generate more revenue from farming than the country currently earns from oil. He added that his plan is to unlock that potential through targeted development strategies.
He also called for stronger democratic practices, saying opposition parties must be supported to ensure accountability in governance. According to him, a healthy democracy depends on allowing opposition groups to function freely and effectively.
The former Anambra State governor maintained that improving governance and economic productivity in all regions, especially the North, is central to his political vision as the country prepares for the next election cycle.
