The African Democratic Congress on Monday in Abuja announced a new venue for its national convention scheduled for Tuesday, moving the event to the Rainbow Event Centre in the Federal Capital Territory.
The party disclosed this through its official X platform, stating that the new location was selected to accommodate delegates and stakeholders arriving from different parts of the country. It noted that the venue is centrally located in Abuja and easy to access, making it suitable for the gathering.
The announcement followed earlier uncertainty about where the convention would hold, as the party had not secured a venue less than a day before the event. Concerns had grown among members after efforts to use major public facilities in the city did not produce results.
A media aide to the faction led by David Mark had earlier revealed that the party made attempts to obtain approval to use Eagle Square but did not get a response. The aide also stated that efforts to secure space at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, including the velodrome, were unsuccessful.
However, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, dismissed the claims on Monday, saying no formal application was submitted for the use of Eagle Square. He explained that access to the venue is open to all groups that follow the required process and complete necessary payments.
The development comes as the party prepares to hold its national convention amid internal challenges and ongoing political activities ahead of the next general elections.
