Former Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Ibrahim Kashim, has moved to the Social Democratic Party and announced his plan to contest the 2027 governorship election.
He made this known on Sunday during a media chat in Bauchi, explaining that his decision followed his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party and his earlier resignation from the state government in December 2024.
Kashim said his ambition is driven by concerns about challenges in key areas such as agriculture, education, and poverty reduction in the state. He explained that his years in public service have given him the experience needed to introduce changes that can improve governance and the welfare of residents.
He noted that his approach to leadership would focus on structured reforms guided by laws and proper procedures, rather than decisions made without clear direction. According to him, steady and well-planned policies can bring progress even if all problems cannot be solved at once.
Speaking on his choice of the Social Democratic Party, Kashim described it as a party with a long history and existing structures across the state. He said the party has active presence at ward, local government, and state levels, and members have continued to strengthen its grassroots support.
He also expressed confidence in the voting pattern of the people of Bauchi, stating that many voters tend to choose candidates based on their ability rather than party loyalty. He added that this gives him hope that his candidacy will receive support.
Kashim called on members of other political parties, including the PDP and the All Progressives Congress, to join the SDP in what he described as a shared effort to move the state forward.
He maintained that his goal is to improve living conditions and promote development, adding that he believes voters will consider his plans in the 2027 election.
