The Labour Party has rejected a recent decision of the Court of Appeal on its leadership dispute, saying it does not accept the ruling and will challenge it further at the Supreme Court.
The party’s position was made known on April 21, 2026, through an official statement shared on its platform. The National Chairman, Julius Abure, said the judgement does not reflect acceptable legal reasoning on internal party affairs and insisted that matters concerning party leadership should remain within the party’s structure.
Abure said the party disagrees with claims that its current leadership has expired. He maintained that a convention held in March 2024 in Nnewi is still valid and should be recognised as the basis of the party’s leadership arrangement.
He also faulted the gathering in Umuahia that led to the setting up of a caretaker committee, describing it as not in line with the party’s constitution. According to him, only recognised party authorities have the power to convene such meetings.
The Labour Party leadership confirmed that it has already begun steps to appeal the judgement at the Supreme Court, insisting it will pursue the matter to its final conclusion.
