A former African Democratic Congress leader in Ekiti State, Ayodele David-Adesua, has left the party and joined the Peoples Democratic Party as he moves to contest for the Ekiti North Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His defection, announced on April 21 through a resignation letter addressed to his ward chairman in Ikole Local Government Area, comes amid growing political realignments in the state.
David-Adesua, who previously sought the governorship ticket under the ADC in 2018 and 2026, said his exit followed his political plans and desire to pursue his ambition on another platform. His move to the PDP is seen as part of preparations for the coming elections, especially as parties begin to position for major contests in Ekiti and across the country.
In his resignation, the politician pointed to his years of involvement in building the ADC, saying he contributed to the party at ward, local government, state and national levels. He was said to have supported the party’s structure in Ikole by providing office spaces in all 12 wards and helping sustain party activities financially.
His allies said the switch to the PDP is tied to his Senate ambition and his belief that the party offers a stronger platform to pursue the Ekiti North seat. Speaking on the move, David-Adesua said he took the step to advance his plan of delivering democratic benefits to the people of the district and to work through a platform he believes can support that goal.
His defection adds to the political shifts already unfolding in Ekiti as preparations continue for the June 2026 governorship election and the wider 2027 polls. Observers say the move could reshape alignments in the state, particularly in Ekiti North, where political activities are beginning to gather pace.
The development also reflects the growing movement among politicians seeking new platforms ahead of the elections, as parties continue consultations, alliances and repositioning in the race for key offices.
