The Oyo State House of Assembly on Wednesday in Ibadan dismissed rumours of an impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde and passed a unanimous vote of confidence in him and Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, declaring that reports of division within the state leadership were false.
The resolution followed plenary, where lawmakers moved to address growing speculation about alleged political tension involving the governor, the Assembly and other key figures in the state. Members of the House said no impeachment process had been initiated and described the reports as political rumours without basis.
The motion was moved by the Majority Leader, Sanjo Adedoyin, who told lawmakers that the Assembly remained united and focused on its constitutional duties. He maintained that there had been no communication, discussion or procedure within the chamber suggesting any move to remove the governor.
Lawmakers also rejected recent claims linking Makinde, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and some members of the Assembly to political plots against one another. They described such reports as unfounded and urged the public to disregard them.
Deputy Speaker Mohammed Fadeyi supported the motion and praised the current administration’s performance in areas such as infrastructure, education and healthcare. He said the House remained committed to working with the executive in the interest of the state.
Chief Whip Gbenga Oyekola also denied claims of impeachment discussions and warned against spreading false narratives capable of creating unnecessary tension. He said the Assembly was focused on governance and quality representation rather than political distractions.

The lawmakers reaffirmed support for both Makinde and the Speaker, insisting the House would not be influenced by outside forces or speculation. The development comes amid growing political conversations in the state ahead of future contests, but the Assembly said its priority remains stability and governance.
