YPP Unveils Timetable for Congresses, Primaries

The Young Progressives Party has announced dates for its ward, local government, state and national congresses, alongside its primary elections and national convention as preparations gather pace ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decisions were taken during the party’s 25th National Executive Committee meeting held at its national secretariat in Abuja, where members approved the timetable and other arrangements for the upcoming political activities.

According to the schedule released by the party, ward congresses will begin on May 21, followed by local government congresses on May 22 and state congresses on May 23. The party also fixed dates for primary elections for various offices, beginning with House of Assembly primaries on May 24, followed by National Assembly primaries on May 25 and governorship primaries on May 26. The national convention and presidential primary are scheduled for May 30.

The party also released fees for nomination forms for those seeking elective offices, while announcing concessions for young aspirants under 40, women and persons living with disabilities. It said the sale of forms has already started.

YPP further said elections within the party will be conducted through consensus and direct primary methods in line with its constitution and the Electoral Act.
At the meeting, the party also took decisions affecting Anambra State, including zoning the position of state chairman to Anambra Central Senatorial District while retaining the office of state secretary in Anambra South.

The timetable is part of efforts by the party to organise its internal process early as political parties continue preparations for future elections.
