Former Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Citizenship and Leadership, Nasir Ja’oji, has declared his intention to contest the Tarauni Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general election, opening his bid after stepping down from his role in the presidency.
Ja’oji made his intention known in Kano while addressing supporters, with his media team saying the decision followed growing calls from political supporters and associates urging him to seek elective office.
His move comes shortly after leaving his position as presidential aide, a step seen as part of preparations for the race. He said his decision to contest was driven by a desire to serve the people of the constituency and deepen his role in public service.
Ja’oji also pointed to his years of involvement in party activities and his contributions to the growth of the All Progressives Congress as part of the background shaping his ambition.
He said his time in government gave him broader experience in governance, leadership and public engagement, while also helping him understand issues affecting citizens and the demands of representation.
His supporters say he has been active in youth-focused initiatives and programmes aimed at empowering women and young people, adding that he hopes to build on such efforts if elected into the National Assembly.
The declaration places him among early entrants into the contest for the Tarauni seat as political activities ahead of 2027 continue to gather pace across the country.
