On Wednesday night in Abuja, the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, David Mark, assured party members that the party will take part in the 2027 general elections despite ongoing court cases. He gave this assurance after receiving an update from the party’s legal team on a recent ruling by the Federal High Court.
Mark said the party has no reason to panic over the legal battles, as it is ready to face them through proper legal means. He explained that the party has already taken steps to challenge the court decision by filing an appeal and also seeking to pause the enforcement of the ruling. According to him, the party leadership is prepared to handle all issues arising from the cases and remain within the law while doing so.
He added that he would take personal responsibility in guiding the party through the legal process, showing confidence that the cases would not stop the party from appearing on the ballot in all elections. His statement came at a time when concerns had grown among members about the effect of the court judgment on the party’s future.
The legal team had earlier briefed Mark and other top officials on what the judgment means and the next steps to take. They also laid out plans for how the party would defend its position in court in the coming weeks.
