The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday in Abuja said the Peoples Democratic Party is now united after a ruling by the Supreme Court of Nigeria settled disputes over leadership within the party. He spoke during a press briefing at his residence in Guzape, where he addressed the outcome of the court decision and its effect on the party’s internal issues.
Wike said the judgment ended the long-running disagreement over parallel leadership claims and confirmed that there is only one structure in the party. He explained that the court dismissed appeals that challenged earlier rulings from lower courts, which had already recognised the party’s convention and leadership.
According to him, all attempts to overturn those decisions failed through the legal process, bringing final closure to the matter.
He also clarified that the case before the court did not include any issue about the suspension of Samuel Anyanwu, noting that such claims were not part of what the judges considered. He said the ruling instead focused on disputes linked to leadership and party structure, which have now been resolved.
The minister stated that political actors must follow party rules and the law in handling disagreements, adding that the court’s decision shows that internal matters should be addressed within legal boundaries. He warned against actions that could disrupt party order or ignore laid-down procedures.
Wike spoke about members who left the party during the crisis, saying some may now return following the clarity provided by the judgment. He described a number of those who exited as having little political value but said the party remains open to those who wish to come back after the situation has been settled.
On talks about alliances among opposition figures, he said he would not support any arrangement that lacks clear purpose or benefit to the country. He added that political engagement should be based on ideas that can improve governance rather than actions driven by rivalry alone.
He further noted that court decisions in political matters show the need for due process and advised aggrieved members to always seek legal solutions when disputes arise.
Wike said the party remains strong and prepared to carry out its role in the country’s democratic system, adding that the outcome of the case confirms stability within its ranks.
