The African Democratic Congress has said it is fully prepared to take part in the 2027 general elections and has rejected claims that it may not be able to field candidates. The party made this known on Saturday through its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in a statement addressing recent reports about its status.
The party stated that it is putting structures in place across the country and is working toward presenting candidates for all elective positions in the next election cycle. It added that its focus remains on building its base and preparing for the polls despite ongoing discussions in the political space.
This reaction followed different interpretations of a recent Supreme Court ruling linked to the party’s leadership dispute, which led to concerns in some quarters about its ability to participate fully in the elections. The ADC, however, maintained that there is no legal issue stopping it from contesting.
The party also responded to reports suggesting that some of its key members, including former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, may leave the party for another platform. It said such developments would not affect its readiness or plans for the elections.
According to the statement, the ADC sees itself as a strong opposition platform and remains committed to organising and mobilising support across Nigeria. It said its aim is to present candidates who can lead the country and address current challenges facing citizens.
The party also called on its members and supporters to ignore claims about its exclusion from the election, noting that its preparations are ongoing and in line with electoral laws.
It added that it would continue its activities without being distracted by speculation as it works toward the 2027 elections.
