Former members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, under their association, have declared support for Bola Ahmed Tinubu to seek another term in office. The decision was reached during a meeting held in Akure, where the group said it acted after reviewing the current administration and the state of the country.
The association, made up of ex-lawmakers from different political parties, said its members agreed to support the president based on their experience in governance and their assessment of his policies so far.
According to the group, Tinubu took over leadership at a time the economy was under pressure, dealing with subsidy payments, weak finances and structural issues.
They noted that the removal of fuel subsidy, though difficult for many Nigerians, was a step taken to address long-standing economic problems. They added that funds saved from the move are now being used in areas such as state allocations and infrastructure development, while efforts are also being made to improve financial management.
The group also pointed to changes in the foreign exchange system, saying these steps are helping to improve investor trust and support economic recovery over time. In addition, they said the government has shown commitment in sectors like road construction, rail projects, power supply and youth-focused programmes.
The former lawmakers also spoke on the performance of key government officials, including Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, noting changes in immigration services, internal security coordination and public service delivery. They also mentioned the roles of the finance and youth development ministries in ongoing reforms.
While acknowledging that many of the policies are still in progress, the group warned that stopping them midway could slow down progress and create uncertainty again. They called on Nigerians across regions and political backgrounds to support the president, stating that steady leadership and continuity are needed at this stage.
