The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, said on Sunday in Katsina State that governors in the North-West region will not enter into any form of negotiation with bandits, as part of efforts to address insecurity in the area.
He spoke during the inauguration of a road project, where he explained that leaders in the region have agreed on a firm approach to dealing with criminal groups.
Aliyu said the decision was reached to ensure that insecurity is tackled directly without giving room for any form of compromise with those involved in violent activities.
He added that the state governments in the region are working together and investing resources to support security operations aimed at ending banditry.
He also explained that collaboration with security agencies remains ongoing, with efforts focused on restoring safety across affected communities. According to him, the strategy includes stronger coordination between government authorities and security personnel to confront criminal activities.
The governor called on residents to support these efforts by staying alert and sharing useful information with authorities, especially about suspicious movements or individuals within their communities. He said community involvement is necessary in helping security agencies respond quickly and effectively.
Aliyu further praised the security initiatives introduced in Katsina State, particularly the community guard programme, which he said has helped in improving local security efforts.
He urged residents to continue supporting government actions and remain hopeful as authorities push to bring lasting peace to the region.
